Bartine is a popular Dutch bakery located in The Hague. The shop was really crowded, because it was a Saturday. I saw beautiful focaccias behind the display case and many other delicious treats. You can sit at a table and enjoy a drink with a sandwich or a pastry. Next to the shop, they were busy baking these goodies — through a large window, you can watch and enjoy the process.
At this bakery, I bought a baguette and a pain au chocolat. And a week later I tasted the pistacho cruffin and a white sourdough bread.
The baguette looked nicely baked and had a crispy crust. The crumb structure could have been a bit better, and the flavor was fine. It's a good baguette but I've seen even nicer ones.
The sides of the pain au chocolat looked very nice, but the top layer could be a bit neater. The inside was (as is often the case) less attractive due to the filling pressing down the layers. The flavour was really tastefull.
The cruffin had a pistachio filling and some pumpkin seeds on top; the layers were very beautiful, and the filling wasn’t too sweet.
The sourdough bread had poppy seeds and sesame seeds on the outside of the crust; it had a nice crumb structure and a delicious flavor.
