Bartine is a popular Dutch bakery located in The Hague. The shop was really crowded, because it was a Saturday. I saw beautiful focaccias behind the display case and many other delicious treats. You could sit at a table and enjoy a drink with a sandwich or a pastry. Next to the shop, they were busy baking these goodies — through a large window, you could watch and enjoy the process.
At this bakery, I bought a baguette and a pain au chocolat.
The baguette looked nicely baked and had a crispy crust. The crumb structure could have been better, and the flavor was not very pronounced.
The pain au chocolat had a top layer that wasn't very neat, but the sides looked very nice. The inside was (as is often the case) less attractive due to the filling.
